The Kramer VP-551X is a professional presentation switcher and scaler designed to manage multiple HDMI, VGA and composite sources and deliver a single high-quality AV output. It accepts ten video inputs and converts or scales incoming signals to match displays connected via HDMI and HDBaseT. The unit offers embedded audio handling and multiple audio output options for flexible system design.

The VP-551X features eight HDMI inputs plus a computer graphics and composite input, each accompanied by a dedicated analog companion audio input. It provides high-resolution video handling up to 4K@60Hz and supports HDR10, CEC and Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD Master Audio passthrough. The scaler includes ProcAmp controls, aspect ratio options and PixPerfect pixel-mapping for clean, accurate images.

Performance is engineered for pro AV installations – the device scales and deinterlaces signals with 3:2 and 2:2 pull-down handling and maintains constant output sync to prevent video interruptions when switching inputs. Latency is low at approximately 1-2 frames, and HDCP 2.2 content protection is supported. The HDBaseT output supports long-range distribution up to specified distances depending on resolution.

Connectivity is comprehensive with mirrored HDMI and HDBaseT outputs, balanced analog stereo and S/PDIF digital audio outputs, plus amplified speaker outputs. Two independent mic inputs with optional 48V phantom power are provided for presentations and talk-over functionality. Control options include front panel buttons, IR remote, RS-232 and web-based Ethernet control for remote management.

The VP-551X is suited to conference rooms, boardrooms, lecture halls, hotels and houses of worship where mixing legacy and modern sources is required. It supports common AV workflows such as source switching, audio embedding/de-embedding, and long-distance HDBaseT distribution. The built-in DSP offers EQ, mixing and delay to tailor the audio to the room and loudspeaker setup.

Installation is straightforward in a single-rack-space 19 inch enclosure with included rack ears and universal 100-240V AC power. Convection ventilation supports quiet operation and the unit stores settings in non-volatile memory for consistent behavior after power cycles.
