The TR-16 is a compact wireless IFB talent receiver designed to provide clear, selectable monitoring for on-air talent and production staff. It offers 16 user-selectable frequencies accessed via top-panel controls, making channel selection fast and reliable. The unit’s compact form factor and lightweight construction make it suitable for extended wearable use.

Key features include a 3.5mm earphone connector compatible with common IFB earpieces, selectable high-frequency boost to compensate for acoustic tube and earphone loss, and EDR for increased dynamic range. The front-panel controls and backlit LCD provide straightforward operation and channel feedback. The unit supports extended battery life to keep talent on-air longer during events and broadcasts.

Technically, the TR-16 operates in the 64-68MHz TV 3 and 4 range using FM modulation with +/-25kHz deviation. The receiver achieves a frequency response of 100Hz to 10kHz and sensitivity typically at 0.5uV. Distortion is held under 2% T.H.D. and the receiver provides specific audio output levels into 8 Ohm and 32 Ohm loads at the specified distortion point.

Connectivity is simple and industry-standard – a 3.5mm stereo/mono earphone jack and omnidirectional antenna integrated in the earphone cord are provided. The receiver runs on two AA cells and reports low battery status on the backlit LCD when approximately 10 percent capacity remains. Compatibility with standard RTS Telethin earpieces and common 8-500 earphones ensures immediate integration into existing workflows.

Typical use cases include live television talent IFB monitoring, ENG and field production talent monitoring, and stage or event talent comms where discreet monitoring is required. The selectable HF boost and EDR option help maintain intelligibility when using behind-the-collar acoustic tubes.
