The RS40N-4 is a secure multi-domain smart-card reader that allows a single smart card to be used simultaneously across four separate computer systems. It provides a centralized hardware token interface that reduces the need for multiple cards and readers. The unit is NIAP Common Criteria PP4.0 compliant and is designed for security-conscious environments.
The reader supports simultaneous associations to four PCs and immediately de-associates all connected hosts when the card is removed – triggering lock or logoff behaviors on smart-card aware systems. Hardware indicators include blue LEDs for active channels and red LEDs for tamper or read-failure events, plus an audible transducer for user warnings. The device supports ISO7816 Class A and AB smart cards and standard T=1 and T=0 protocols.
Performance characteristics include communication speeds up to 344,105 bps and card clocking up to 12 MHz via PPS parameters. The sliding 8-contact connector is rated for 150,000 insertions to support repeated daily use. Driver support is CCID compliant and PC/SC compatible for broad OS coverage including Windows, Linux and macOS.
Connectivity consists of four USB Type-A cables (1 m each) to connect to host computers and USB Type-B ports on the unit for host interface, together with a 12 VDC external wall-mounted power supply.
