Description
The BTR-80N is a 2-channel UHF wireless intercom base station designed to provide full-duplex crew communications and a talk/listen headset station at the base. It operates in the C3 band with defined transmit and receive ranges, offering reliable wireless intercom coverage up to 1000 ft. The unit combines frequency agility and advanced RF management for interference-resistant operation.
Key features include support for up to four simultaneous full-duplex beltpacks, Enhanced ClearScan frequency selection, and a talk/listen headset station that supports a fifth local user. The system uses DSP digital audio processing and a combination tone code/RF noise squelch to preserve audio clarity in busy RF environments. A large backlit LCD and menu-driven graphical user interface simplify setup and channel assignment.
Technically the BTR-80N provides factory preset frequency groups and independent 18 MHz bands to aid frequency planning and deployment. The transceiver uses a 25 kHz modulated bandwidth to improve spectral efficiency and supports a selectable transmit power level. The headset connector automatically detects dynamic or electret boom microphones and offers dedicated headset and boom mic gain controls.
Connectivity includes XLR balanced auxiliary audio input and output, dedicated 2-wire XLE and 4-wire RJ-11 ports for wired intercom integration, and stage announce output via relay closure. The base station is compatible with Audiocom, Clear-Com, and RTS matrix systems for mixed wired and wireless deployments. Dual voltage power capability enables international use without external adapters.
Practical use cases include multi-camera productions, live event stage management, and broadcast production where secure full-duplex wireless intercom is required. The Enhanced ClearScan feature ranks available channels to minimize interference and intermodulation, which is critical in congested UHF environments. The system supports wireless talk-around ISO for isolated monitoring and direct crew communication on scene.
Installation and daily operation are designed to be straightforward with front-panel enable/disable buttons and LED status indicators for each portable station. Rack or desk mounting is supported and the chassis is built for pro production use. Overall the BTR-80N delivers a compact RF base solution that integrates with wired intercom workflows while offering robust RF features for demanding production environments.
