Description
The TR-80N is a two-channel UHF narrowband wireless beltpack designed to provide secure intercom audio for live production and broadcast workflows. It pairs with compatible base stations such as the BTR-80N and delivers reliable RF performance across band C3. The housing uses cast magnesium for durable field use and repeated handling.
Key features include two independent audio channels, an LCD graphical user interface for status and configuration, and an auto-sensing headset connector that switches between electret and dynamic microphone types. The unit also provides a receiver RF meter, stage announce activation and wireless talk around (ISO) functionality. Enhanced ClearScan and detachable antennas improve frequency selection and RF flexibility.
Technical specifics include synthesized frequency agility in the UHF narrow band, two-channel audio operation, and indicators for low battery and overmodulation (BAT/OM). The beltpack runs on six AA cells with NiMH battery options and operates across a wide temperature range of -20°C to 55°C. The form factor is a portable beltpack intended for user station roles and it does not provide binaural output.
Connectivity is focused on headset integration and RF link performance rather than audio I/O panels; the auto-sensing headset connector accepts electret and dynamic mics automatically. Detachable antennas simplify transport and field replacement while the receiver RF meter assists in on-site frequency and signal checks. Controls include an audio channel select button, on/off and volume control, talk button and talk light for clear user operation.
Typical use cases include live event production where stage announce and ISO talk-around are required, broadcast intercom links between stage crew and control rooms, and theatrical productions needing discreet beltpack comms. The two channels allow separate talk and listen paths or redundant channel assignment for mission-critical tasks. Its rugged construction and simple battery power make it suitable for remote and mobile deployments.
Installation and daily operation emphasize ease of use and reliability – the LCD GUI and physical controls provide fast access to functions while battery operation removes AC dependency. The cast magnesium case offers impact resistance and longevity in touring or rental environments. Regular field checks via the RF meter and clear BAT/OM indicators ensure predictable performance during events.
