Description
The KUMO 64 x 64 Compact 12G-SDI switcher is a high-density SDI matrix designed for professional broadcast and production environments. It provides 64 12G-SDI inputs and 64 12G-SDI outputs in a super-compact 4 U shallow-depth enclosure. The unit is network-ready and supports HTTP control and monitoring via a standard web browser.
This switcher offers single-link 12G-SDI connectivity for UHD 4K workflows and can be configured for ganged dual link or quad link operation to support higher bandwidth signals including 8K. The cross-point matrix allows any input to be routed to any number of outputs without external patch panels or distribution amplifiers. Salvo and Preset features let operators recall complex routing states quickly and reliably.
Performance follows broadcast standards with SMPTE compliance across 12G-SDI, 6G-SDI, 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, and SD-SDI, and RP-168 compliant switching ensures clean transitions across multiple crosspoints. Inputs and outputs are provided on BNC connectors with reference inputs for system timing. Power is provided via dual block power inputs supporting 100 to 240 VAC and optional DC device input ranges.
Connectivity options include 2x BNC reference inputs, RJ45 Ethernet for control and LAN, mini-USB for firmware and service, and DE-9 RS-422 for legacy control systems. The KUMO supports Grass Valley Native Protocol over RS-422 or Gigabit Ethernet and can be controlled by optional KUMO CP and CP2 control panels. Bonjour/Zeroconf auto-detect simplifies network configuration.
Typical applications include live sports mobile trucks, edit suites, virtual production stages, broadcast studios, and live theatrical rigs where high-channel counts and quiet operation are required. The fanless design makes the unit suitable for on-set and near-microphone environments where silent operation is needed. Salvo recall and preset storage provide operational efficiency during live events and fast turnaround postproduction.
Installation is straightforward with a shallow 4 U rack form factor and standard rack mounting options. Embedded Linux and web-based control eliminate the need for additional software while allowing integration into existing control ecosystems. Build quality and component selection are optimized for broadcast reliability and continuous operation.
