Description

The Blackmagic Cloud Store 20TB is a network attached storage appliance engineered for collaborative media production. It consolidates multiple NVMe M.2 SSDs in a RAID 5 array to deliver high sustained throughput and fault tolerance. The unit is designed to serve multiple editors and colorists simultaneously with low latency access to large digital cinema files.

Key features include 20 TB of flash storage arranged in RAID 5, four 10GbE ports that can operate as an integrated switch or aggregated link, two 1GbE ports, two USB-C ports for ingest and backup, and an HDMI status output. The internal M.2 SSD array provides parallelized read/write operations and wear leveling to maintain consistent performance. Dual internal power supplies provide redundancy for mission critical use.

Performance is sized for high-resolution workflows and supports playback of very large Blackmagic RAW files including 12K formats. The memory core is engineered to saturate multiple 10GbE links simultaneously while keeping latency low for real-time editing. If an M.2 module fails the device will enter read-only mode to preserve access while maintenance or rebuild is performed.

Connectivity covers modern workstation and laptop workflows via native 10GbE and USB-C Ethernet-over-USB support. One USB-C port functions as an automatic ingest from connected media while the other provides automated backup to USB storage. The HDMI port outputs a live graphical status display including storage map, active users, and bandwidth graphs for quick monitoring.

This Cloud Store is suitable for multi-camera dailies ingest, collaborative DaVinci Resolve timelines, remote site caching via Dropbox sync, and centralized asset storage for post and VFX teams. Syncing between multiple units via Dropbox provides local copies in different geographic locations while avoiding real-time internet editing latency. The system supports common macOS and Windows workstations and mobile companion apps for status checks.

Setup and maintenance are straightforward using the Blackmagic Cloud Store utility for macOS and Windows, and the unit is serviceable by qualified engineers due to its removable M.2 modules and single PCB design. The vertical, portable enclosure is quiet for location use and supports standard international AC voltages. Firmware and utility controls enable network configuration, Dropbox sync management, and RAID rebuild operations.
