The Portacapture X8 is an 8-channel portable audio recorder designed to capture high-resolution multitrack audio in field and studio environments. It records up to 8 tracks simultaneously and offers 32-bit float recording to preserve wide dynamic range without clipping. The unit combines on-board detachable condenser microphones, multi-format recording and an intuitive touch-screen interface for fast operation.

Key features include 32-bit floating point recording, detachable large-diaphragm condenser mics configurable for A-B or X-Y stereo, and four balanced mic/line inputs with individual phantom power. The recorder supports WAV (BWF) up to 192 kHz and MP3 formats, plus driverless USB audio interface operation for 8-in/2-out connectivity. A Launcher system on a 3.5-inch color touch panel provides application-specific presets for podcasting, field recording, vocals and multi-track work.

Technical performance is focused on fidelity and dynamic range – the Portacapture X8 uses dual ADC architecture and achieves dynamic range values of 113 dB or higher. Frequency response extends to 20 Hz – 60 kHz depending on sampling rate, and total harmonic distortion is exceptionally low for both line and mic inputs. Mic preamp equivalent input noise is specified at -126 dBu or better for inputs 3-6.

Connectivity covers balanced XLR-TRS combo inputs for channels 3-6, 3.5mm mini TRS unbalanced inputs for the included mics, an unbalanced EXT IN, LINE OUT and headphone output on 3.5mm jacks, and USB Type-C for USB 2.0 High Speed mass storage and audio. Wireless remote control is supported via the Portacapture Control app and the optional AK-BT1 Bluetooth adapter. Power options include 4x AA batteries, USB bus power or an optional AC adapter.

Typical use cases include field sound design, location audio for video, podcast production and multi-track songwriting where single-take capture is important. The 32-bit float capability removes the need for precise gain staging under dynamic conditions, and detachable stereo mics provide quick setup for ambience and stereo perspective. The compact chassis and long battery life on lithium cells make the unit suitable for extended location recording sessions.
