Description

The FR-AV2 is a compact field recorder and timecode generator designed to simplify on-camera and location audio capture. It combines 32-bit float recording with dual Ultra HDDA preamps to reduce setup time and prevent clipping during unpredictable performances. The unit integrates timecode IN/OUT and generation to streamline multi-camera shoots.

Key features include dual ADCs supporting 32-bit float up to 192 kHz, two XLR/TRS combo inputs with ultra-low EIN, a 3.5 mm line input, and a built-in high-accuracy TCXO timecode generator. Wireless monitoring is available via the optional AK-BT2 Bluetooth adapter and Jam-Sync compatibility enables sync with external devices. The FR-AV2 also functions as a 2-in/2-out USB-C audio interface for computers and mobile devices supporting 32-bit float transfer.

Technically, the recorder supports WAV (BWF) files at 48/96/192 kHz sample rates and records in 24-bit or 32-bit float formats. The ultra-low noise preamps achieve an EIN of -127 dBu and the dynamic range exceeds 132 dB under JEITA conditions. Frequency response extends to 60 kHz at 192 kHz sampling, and THD+N is specified at 0.02% or less under standard test conditions.

Connectivity covers two XLR/TRS inputs with selectable +24V/+48V phantom power, a 3.5 mm camera/line/TC jack that can supply plug-in power, TC IN/OUT on a TRS jack, USB-C for power and USB audio class operation, and a 3.5 mm headphone output with broad impedance support. The device supports LTC timecode formats and multiple frame rates including 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, and 30 fps and half-frame rates for high-frame-rate workflows.

The FR-AV2 suits run-and-gun filmmakers, single-operator shoots, and mobile production workflows where reliable audio and accurate timecode are required. Use cases include DSLR and mirrorless camera rigs, ENG field shoots, and mobile device capture when connected via USB-C. The combination of 32-bit float recording and on-board timecode reduces the need for repeated takes and complicated level adjustments during postproduction.

Battery operation supports alkaline, NiMH, or lithium cells and USB bus power or optional AC adapter.
