Description

The KONA 1-TR0 is a single channel SDI I/O PCIe card designed for capture and playback in broadcast, post, and ProAV environments. It supports 3G-SDI and 1.5G-SDI signals and provides reference and LTC input for frame-accurate workflows. The card includes RS-422 control for machine control and external device synchronization.

KONA 1 provides a single 3G-SDI input and a 3G-SDI output supporting 2K, HD, and SD formats up to 50/60p. The card carries embedded 16-channel 24-bit audio and supports RGB 4:4:4 12-bit and YCbCr 4:2:2 10-bit workflows depending on host application support. VPID signaling conveys transfer characteristics, colorimetry, and luminance for SDR and HDR content.

HDR capabilities include PQ, HLG and Dolby Vision support plus HDR metadata capture and auto playback detection when supported by host software. Video format compatibility includes 2048x1080p, 1080i, 1080p, 720p and SD interlaced formats at common broadcast frame rates. Audio is carried as 16-channel embedded SDI audio at 24-bit and 48 kHz synchronous.

Connectivity on the card comprises two full-size BNC SDI connectors (In/Out), a reference/LTC input supporting analog black burst or tri-level sync, and RS-422 machine control on a 9-pin external connector. Electrical interface is 2-lane PCIe 2.0 for broad host compatibility. Software integration is enabled through AJA drivers and SDK with plug-ins for major NLE and capture applications.

Typical use cases include single-channel ingest stations, monitoring and capture for editorial workflows, and signal I/O for playout servers and tape decks. The card supports simultaneous pass-through monitoring during capture, allowing real-time monitoring without additional hardware. Its single-channel design makes it a cost-effective solution for channel-based installs and mobile systems.

Installation is straightforward in systems supporting PCIe 2.0 lanes and compatible host drivers. The card is offered in a tall bracket variant that includes an external 9-pin RS-422 connector and a low profile variant available with an internal RS-422 header. A three year warranty provides support for integration and long-term use.
