The HD5DA is a compact 1×4 HD-SDI/SDI distribution amplifier designed to buffer and replicate a single serial digital video feed to four independently buffered outputs. It provides reliable signal distribution for broadcast and professional AV environments where signal integrity and minimal footprint are required. The unit automatically adapts to multiple SDI rates to simplify setup across different equipment.
Key features include four separately buffered HD-SDI/SDI outputs, automatic cable equalization to 100 meters, and multi-standard operation supporting 143 Mb, 177 Mb, 270 Mb, 360 Mb and 1.5 Gb rates. The HD5DA functions as a low-cost repeater to restore signal levels and extend cable runs while maintaining return loss performance. Its miniature size and low power draw make it practical for rack, monitor, or camera-rig mounting.
Technically the HD5DA supports SMPTE 292/296 serial digital interfaces and provides auto select for supported SD and HD data rates. Return loss is specified at greater than 15 dB at 270 MHz for both input and outputs. The unit accepts a regulated 5-18 VDC supply and consumes approximately 2.5 watts, and a universal power supply is included with purchase.
Connectivity is straightforward with a single HD-SDI/SDI BNC input and four HD-SDI/SDI BNC outputs, all featuring equalization on the input path to compensate for cable loss. The HD5DA automatically negotiates the incoming SDI rate and presents stable buffered copies on each output, ensuring compatibility with recorders, monitors, switchers, or downstream converters. The locking power connector prevents accidental disconnection in the field.
Typical applications include distributing a camera feed to multiple monitors, feeding multiple recorders or encoders from a single SDI source, and extending cable runs in OB vans or broadcast racks. The small form factor and low weight allow placement behind displays, inside racks, or on camera rigs where space is limited. The HD5DA is practical for both permanent installs and temporary field deployments.
Installation and operation are intentionally simple – connect the SDI source, attach up to four SDI destinations, and apply power. There are no menus or controls to configure as the unit provides automatic equalization and format detection. The robust construction, reliable BNC connectors and included universal power supply make it a dependable element in professional signal distribution workflows.
