Description
The FS4 is a frame synchronizer and converter engineered for broadcast and live production – it provides four independent 2K/HD/SD processors or a single 4K/UltraHD processor with extensive frame sync and conversion tools. The unit performs up, down, and cross-conversion between SD, HD, 2K and 4K/UltraHD formats. It also supports configurable HDR metadata for both SDI VPID and HDMI HDR Infoframe outputs.
FS4 includes features such as adjustable frame delay up to 20 frames per channel, motion adaptive deinterlacing, region of interest scaling, proc amp and color correction controls, and a built-in test pattern generator including HDR color bars. Audio routing is handled by an internal audio matrix capable of handling embedded SDI audio, AES, and MADI sources with sample rate conversion on inputs. Channel to channel sync ensures multiple outputs remain locked to the same field or frame.
Technically, FS4 supports a wide range of video formats including 4096×2160, 3840×2160, 2048×1080, 1920×1080, 1280×720, and SD 625i/525i in multiple frame rates and scanning types. Video processing is performed in 10-bit hardware and supports SQD and 2SI pixel mapping for 4K workflows. Ancillary data pass-through, closed caption conversion CEA-608/CEA-708, and AFD handling are implemented for robust format translation.
Connectivity includes quad 3G-SDI, dual 3G, quad 1.5G and optional 12G/6G single-link SDI via SFP or HD-BNC SFP modules, plus an HDMI monitor output that can generate HDR Infoframes per HDMI v2.0b / CTA-861-G. Audio I/O includes embedded SDI channels, balanced AES DB-25 I/O, and coax or fiber MADI I/O. Network control is available via 1 GbE for web UI, REST API, and SNMP monitoring, and GPI is provided for external triggers.
Typical applications include live sports and event production where AR and delayed sources must be synchronized, mobile production trucks requiring high channel density in 1RU, and post facilities needing robust up/down/cross-conversion and caption handling. The device preserves closed captions across conversions and can generate accurate AFD metadata automatically. HDR metadata handling and simultaneous down-conversion options suit mixed SDR/HDR environments.
FS4 is built in a 1RU chassis with redundant power supplies and an intuitive front panel plus web-based UI for remote configuration. Presets, comprehensive alarm indicators, and an ergonomic control layout simplify integration and operation in demanding broadcast environments. AJA backs the unit with a five year warranty to support long-term deployments.
