Description

The FIDO-R is a single-channel single-mode LC fiber to 3G-SDI receiver designed to convert a simplex fiber feed into dual, matching 3G/HD/SD-SDI outputs. It supports long-distance runs up to 10 km and provides electrical isolation to help eliminate ground loop issues. The unit is compact and intended for tight rack, truck, and camera installations where reliable fiber to SDI conversion is needed.

Key features include a single-mode LC fiber input compatible with SMPTE-297, dual matching 3G-SDI BNC outputs, and automatic reclocking for standard SDI rates. The receiver accepts 150 Mbps to 3 Gbps signals in a format-agnostic manner and provides robust optical sensitivity and overload thresholds for stable operation. A universal power supply that supports 5-20 VDC is included to simplify deployment.

Performance details include nominal wavelength operation from 1260 nm to 1620 nm, optical sensitivity down to -18 dBm, and overload tolerance to -3 dBm. Reclocking is applied to common SDI rates including 270 Mbps, 1.483 Gbps, 1.485 Gbps, 2.966 Gbps, and 2.970 Gbps while other rates are passed through. The device consumes a maximum of 2 watts, maintaining low power draw for portable or battery-backed installations.

Connectivity is straightforward with a simplex LC fiber input and two BNC 3G-SDI outputs compliant with SMPTE-259/292/424. The compact enclosure measures 4.6″ x 1.71″ x 0.85″ and weighs approximately 0.5 lb, making it easy to mount behind monitors, inside racks, or on camera rigs. Environmental tolerances include operating temperatures from 0 to 40 C, storage from -40 to 60 C (power off), 10-90% noncondensing humidity, and operation below 3,000 meters altitude.

Typical applications include live event feeds, OB truck fiber links, point-to-point studio connections, and camera-to-control-room links where single-mode fiber is used to bridge long distances. The dual matching outputs provide a simple means to feed monitors, recorders, or switchers without additional splitting hardware.
