Description
The ADA4 is a compact 4-channel bidirectional audio A/D and D/A converter designed for professional broadcast and pro AV workflows. It provides configurable operation as 4-channel A/D, 4-channel D/A, 2-channel A/D plus 2-channel D/A, or as an AES synchronizer. The unit delivers consistent digital audio conversion and synchronization in a small footprint that fits in racks, behind monitors, or on camera rigs.
The ADA4 supports simultaneous analog to AES/EBU conversion and AES/EBU to analog conversion, and it offers full-time AES11 low jitter reference output for stable timing. Adjustable analog audio levels are available via easy-to-access DIP switches, and the unit includes sample rate conversion between 48 kHz and 96 kHz. A supplied XLR breakout cable provides immediate connectivity to balanced analog and AES signals.
Internally the ADA4 uses 24-bit audio converters and supports standard broadcast reference levels including +24dBu SMPTE RP155 and +18dBu EBU R68. Reference inputs accept AES11, wordclock, tri-level sync, or color black, and the reference loop operates at 75 ohm unterminated. The unit consumes 3 watts and accepts +5-18VDC power for flexible deployment options.
Connectivity includes balanced XLR analog I/O with one channel per XLR and balanced 110 ohm AES/EBU on XLR with two channels per connector. The reference loop supports HD/SD sync, AES-11, or wordclock at 48/96 kHz, and the breakout cable exposes additional connections for integration. DIP switch controls allow quick on-site configuration of channel direction and level settings without removing the unit from the rack.
The ADA4 is suited to a wide range of applications including broadcast studio audio conversion, on-site field recording and camera rigs requiring AES synchronization, and live production where reliable analog to digital conversion is needed. It is also useful as an AES synchronizer when integrating legacy analog sources into AES/EBU-based systems. The small form factor and optional P-TAP compatibility make it practical for remote and mobile productions.
Installation is streamlined by its compact design and locking power connector that prevents accidental disconnection. The external DIP switches and supplied XLR breakout cable reduce setup time during live events or in busy studios.
