Description
The RE520-RC3 is a thread-on condenser microphone head designed to convert compatible wireless handheld transmitters into a condenser vocal microphone – delivering detailed, vivid vocal reproduction with controlled off-axis rejection. It uses a self-biased condenser element tuned for a full low end and clear, present midrange. The design balances articulate detail with natural warmth to support expressive performances.
Key features include a supercardioid polar pattern for excellent acoustic isolation and feedback control, a multi-stage pop filter to reduce breath blasts and plosives, and a selectable high-pass filter to reduce undesirable low frequency content. An internal shock mount isolates the capsule from handling noise and vibration to preserve clarity when used on wireless transmitters. The element and mechanical coupling are optimized to maintain consistent tonal character and secure mechanical fit.
Performance specifications include a frequency response of 40 Hz to 20 kHz, a sensitivity of 5.6 mV/Pascal (-45 dBV/Pa), a maximum SPL of 139 dB (1% THD), and a self-noise rating of 22 dB SPL A-weighted. The microphone yields a dynamic range of 117 dB and a signal-to-noise ratio of 72 dB, providing a clean signal for FOH and broadcast chains. It operates on 4-8 VDC phantom power and presents a 1000 ohm output impedance to downstream wireless transmitter electronics.
Connectivity is provided by a 3-ring electrical contact that matches the common 3-contact ring handheld wireless transmitters and a threaded coupling using a 1.25 in. diameter 28 UN-2A thread pitch. The captured ID collar allows the head to rotate freely during initial engagement and to lock when fully tightened, enabling correct logo orientation. Finish and materials include black polyurethane paint, aluminum and steel construction, and a steel wire grille screen for long-term durability.
The RE520-RC3 is suitable for live vocalists, broadcast presenters, rental houses, and touring rigs where a detailed condenser sound and improved off-axis rejection are required. Its supercardioid pattern provides maximum feedback rejection when stage monitors are positioned approximately 125 degrees or 225 degrees off-axis. The selectable high-pass option helps manage stage rumble and proximity effect in live environments.
Installation is straightforward – screw the head onto compatible wireless handheld transmitters that follow the 1.25 in. diameter by 28 UN-2A thread convention and confirm electrical contact via the 3-ring interface. The internal shock mount and robust grille construction contribute to reliable long-term operation under heavy use. Overall, the RE520-RC3 combines condenser detail, practical mounting design, and rugged construction to upgrade wireless handheld systems with improved vocal clarity and control.
