Description
The TX-J3 is a passive unbalanced input transformer that mixes two unbalanced line-level sources into a single balanced mono output. It accepts dual gold-plated RCA phono jacks or a 3.5mm Mini-jack and provides a transformer-balanced output on a detachable terminal block. This module performs conversion without adding gain, preserving the original consumer-level signal.
Inputs are configured so that inserting a Mini-jack disables the RCA inputs, allowing simple switching between source types. The two unbalanced channels are combined and balanced through audio transformers designed to reject induced hum on unbalanced lines. The passive design provides reliable hum cancellation without introducing active circuitry.
Frequency response is 30 Hz to 20 kHz (±1 dB), ensuring transparent reproduction across the audible band. Because the TX-J3 is passive it does not raise the output to a professional +4 dBu line level, so the balanced output follows the consumer input level. For installations requiring a +4 dBu balanced line or extra gain, pair the TX-J3 with RDL’s TX-LC2 line converter.
The balanced output is presented on a front-panel detachable terminal block with +, – and Ground connections suitable for inputs of 10 kΩ or higher. The module interfaces directly with consumer devices and can feed mixers, amplifiers, or line-level inputs when used with appropriate downstream equipment. Its compact footprint makes the TX-J3 easy to integrate into racks, wall boxes, or equipment enclosures.
The TX-J3 is ideal when converting stereo consumer sources such as media players, laptops, or portable audio devices to a summed balanced feed for mixers or amplifiers. It reduces ground-loop hum and simplifies wiring by converting two unbalanced signals into one balanced output.
