Description
The UDC-4K is a compact broadcast-grade up/down/cross converter designed to convert and synchronize SDI and HDMI signals across 4K/UHD and HD raster sizes. It performs raster scaling, frame rate conversion, and frame synchronization to ensure outputs align to a selected reference. The unit supports production workflows that require clean format conversion and stable timing.
Key capabilities include up, down, and cross conversion between 4K/UHD/2K/HD formats, a hardware frame synchronizer, and utility frame rate conversion between 59.94 and 50/60. The UDC-4K supports 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 I/O, four 12G-SDI outputs that can act as a 1×4 distribution amplifier, and loop outputs for monitoring. HDR-aware metadata handling is included with VPID and HDMI Infoframe pass-through or override options.
Technical performance covers support for 4Kp60 over 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0, hardware 12-bit processing where supported, and a high-quality multi-tap polyphase scaler for image fidelity. Nominal video delay is approximately two frames, with additional delay for PsF formats. Audio handling includes PCM, AC-3, and E-AC-3 pass-through including DD+ Atmos JOC and support for up to 100 frames of audio delay.
Connectivity includes 1x 12G-SDI input, 4x 12G-SDI outputs, SDI loop, 1x HDMI 2.0 input, 1x HDMI 2.0 output, HDMI loop, and an external reference BNC input supporting blackburst or tri-level sync. Configuration is available via the built-in LCD and navigation buttons or the AJA Mini-Config application over USB-C. The device supports genlock to external ref, SDI in, HDMI in, or free run via TCXO.
The UDC-4K is suited to live production, broadcast trucks, studios, and post workflows where mixed-resolution sources must be aligned and delivered to common formats. It can integrate legacy HD feeds into UHD workflows, provide HDMI to SDI conversion or vice versa, and distribute a single SDI feed across multiple destinations. The HDR metadata management helps preserve colorimetry and transfer characteristic information across conversions.
Installation is simple thanks to a rugged compact chassis, universal AC adapter, and clear front panel controls and LCD readout. The unit accepts 10-18VDC input and includes a universal AC adapter for global operation. A five year warranty and AJA technical support provide long-term reliability and serviceability for professional AV deployments.
