Description
The ROI-HDMI is an HDMI to SDI scan converter designed to convert computer and HDMI outputs to baseband SDI signals while preserving image quality and offering advanced scaling controls. It extracts a selectable Region of Interest from an HDMI or DVI source and scales that region to standard SD/HD/3G-SDI formats. The unit is compact and designed for easy integration into broadcast, presentation, and digital signage environments.
Key features include HDMI loop through for passthrough monitoring, 3G-SDI output, region of interest scaling, aspect ratio and frame rate conversion, and image rotation and flip. The Mini-Config application enables interactive on-screen ROI selection, EDID emulation and granular control of scaling parameters. The converter supports up, down, and cross-conversion between deinterlaced and progressive signals.
Performance supports computer signals up to WUXGA 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz and a wide range of video formats including 1080p, 1080i, 720p and standard definition formats. The HDMI receiver is limited to a 166 MHz max pixel rate which constrains some frame rate/resolution combinations. Color range supports Full and SMPTE ranges and the device can output 4:2:2 10-bit YCbCr mapping when applicable.
Connectivity includes 1x HDMI input with up to 8-channel embedded audio, 1x HDMI loop-through, and 1x 3G-SDI BNC output supporting SMPTE-259/292/424. Audio options include a 3.5mm analog 2-channel input and embedded HDMI audio, all of which can be embedded into the SDI output as 2- or 8-channel 24-bit audio. Configuration and control are performed via USB using AJA Mini-Config on Mac or Windows.
Typical applications include broadcast ingest of computer graphics, live presentation capture, multi-panel video walls using synchronized ROI outputs, and integration of computer sources into SDI-based infrastructure. The HDMI loop-through keeps a native HDMI monitor in-line, while SDI outputs can be genlocked to an external reference or run free. ROI-HDMI supports genlock via reference input, HDMI input, or free run.
The unit ships with a universal power supply and accepts +5 to 20 VDC input, consuming up to 8 watts. It is small enough to mount behind monitors or on camera rigs and features a locking DC connector and optional P-TAP battery power. AJA provides a five year warranty and Mini-Config software updates to ensure ongoing compatibility and reliability.
