Description
The HA5-Fiber converts a single HDMI source to 3G-SDI carried over singlemode fiber for long-distance signal transport. It accepts HDMI v1.4 inputs and outputs SMPTE-compliant HD/SD-SDI over a singlemode 1310 nm ST fiber link. Compact and lightweight, the converter is designed to mount behind a camera or inside a rack for broadcast and production workflows.
Key capabilities include embedded 8-channel audio over SDI, EDID emulation, and simple frame rate conversion that swaps 60 fps and 59.94 fps. The unit also provides a 2-channel RCA analog audio input for stereo sources and supports 4:2:2, 4:4:4 and 4:2:0 color formats. No on-device configuration is necessary for typical operation and an HDMI cable is included for quick setup.
Technical performance covers common HD and SD formats including 1920x1080p/i, 1280x720p, and legacy SD resolutions. Video input supports 8- or 10-bit color depth with HFR 4:2:2 limited to 10-bit. The optical output supports SMPTE-259/292/424 for SD/HD/3G-SDI and can transport signals up to 10 km over singlemode fiber.
Connectivity includes 1x HDMI Type A input, singlemode ST optical output, embedded SDI audio, and RCA stereo analog inputs (-10 dBu nominal). USB Mini-Config support allows parameter viewing and firmware updates via AJA’s free software. Power is via the supplied universal power supply and the unit accepts +5 V DC regulated input.
Typical applications include mounting on cameras for remote links, OB vans, ENG and studio signal transport where long fiber runs are required. The HA5-Fiber suits live production, remote broadcasting, and installations that require low-latency SDI over fiber. It is also useful for point-to-point distribution between control rooms and field locations.
Installation is straightforward due to the small form factor, locking power connector, and optional P-TAP battery power. The housing and connector layout are optimized for field use and rack integration. AJA supports the product with firmware updates and a five year warranty – providing long-term serviceability and reliability.
