Description
The AJA HA5-4K-R0 is a compact HDMI to SDI converter designed to bridge modern HDMI 4K cameras and devices into professional SDI workflows. It converts HDMI 2.0b signals to four 3G-SDI outputs, carrying full 4K/UltraHD up to 60 fps. The unit also supports HD conversion automatically when lower resolutions are present.
HA5-4K-R0 supports 4K/UltraHD 4:4:4 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 color sampling and offers Two Sample Interleave or Square Division pixel mapping. It supports HDR infoframe analysis via AJA Mini-Config and retains HDR VPID metadata with pass-through or optional override. The converter also handles embedded audio including PCM and compressed formats such as AC-3 and E-AC-3.
Technically, the converter accepts HDMI v2.0b and outputs 4x 3G-SDI BNC compatible with SMPTE-259/292/424 standards and 10-bit processing. Supported resolutions include 4096x2160p and 3840x2160p at 50/59.94/60 and lower frame rates, plus a wide range of HD and SD formats. The device supports simple frame rate conversion fractional or integer and EDID HFR emulation up to UHDp60.
Connectivity includes one HDMI Type A input and four 3G-SDI BNC outputs plus a USB port for configuration with Mini-Config software on Mac or Windows. Embedded audio from HDMI (up to 8 channels 24-bit) is passed to SDI embedded audio (up to 16 channels 24-bit). Power is provided by the included universal 5-20 VDC supply and the AC adapter supports 100-240VAC 50/60 Hz.
HA5-4K-R0 is well suited to live production, camera-to-trunker workflows, on-set monitoring, and broadcast ingest where HDMI sources must be integrated into SDI infrastructures. It is compatible with DSLRs mirrorless cameras action cams and prosumer 4K cameras that output HDMI. The converter maintains sync between audio and video and supports compressed audio formats including Dolby Digital and E-AC-3.
The compact metal enclosure uses convection cooling and includes a locking power connector for reliable field use. Installation is straightforward – mount behind a monitor on a rack or on a camera rig and configure via the USB Mini-Config utility. A five year warranty backs the unit and the design focuses on consistent signal integrity and easy integration into professional systems.
