Description
The AJA HI5-12G-TR-R0 is a compact 12G-SDI to HDMI 2.0 converter designed for professional monitoring and signal distribution. It converts single-link 12G-SDI 4K/UltraHD sources to HDMI 2.0 outputs while preserving high frame rate content up to 60p. The unit also integrates a fiber SFP transceiver to extend SDI or fiber sources and pass the signal on to secondary destinations.
The converter generates HDR10 metadata in accordance with HDMI v2.0b/CTA-861-G and supports HLG over HDMI, enabling HDR-compatible displays to receive proper colorimetry and transfer characteristics. It supports YCbCr 4:2:2, 4:4:4 and RGB 4:4:4 color sampling at 8-, 10- or 12-bit depths, and offers a reclocked SDI loop out for daisy chaining SDI devices. HFR support up to 60p ensures smooth motion for modern broadcast and production workflows.
Performance details include support for 4096×2160 and 3840×2160 at various frame rates up to 60p, multiple SDI rates (12G, 6G, 3G, 1.5G, 270Mb), and HDMI 2.0b output with 24/30/36 bits per pixel options. Audio handling includes PCM, Dolby Digital AC-3 and Dolby Digital Plus E-AC-3 including Atmos (JOC) passthrough, with HDMI embedded audio and an analog two-channel RCA output. The unit accepts SDI embedded audio up to 16 channels and provides USB access for firmware updates.
Connectivity is comprehensive: 1x 12G-SDI BNC input, reclocked SDI loop out, 1x HDMI Type A output, and a Fiber LC SFP transceiver supporting SDI over fiber for receive and transmit on the TR model. The HDMI output supports HDR infoframe generation with pass-through or override options and will fall back to DVI protocol if a monitor does not support HDMI. Power is provided by the included DWP-U adapter and the unit accepts 5-16VDC regulated input.
Typical applications include on-set monitoring, OB vans, post production stations and control rooms where professional 4K/UltraHD SDI sources must be displayed on HDMI 2.0 monitors. The fiber SFP lets you extend sources over long distances while retaining a local HDMI monitor output and an SDI loop for signal distribution. The small form factor and USB-updatable firmware make the unit easy to fit into existing racks or portable rigs.
Installation is straightforward – connect the SDI or fiber source, attach the HDMI display and apply the supplied power adapter. The device uses convection cooling and runs warm to the touch during normal operation, so allow airflow and avoid stacking units directly on top of each other. A five year warranty and AJA support make it suitable for production environments where uptime and reliability matter.
