Description
The SN3401P is a secure serial device server that connects legacy RS-232 / RS-422 / RS-485 equipment to an IP network. It provides remote access to serial devices over Ethernet, enabling centralized monitoring and control. The unit supports secured connection modes and PoE power options for flexible deployment.
Key features include multiple secured operation modes – Secure Real COM, Secure TCP Server / Client, Secure Serial Tunneling Server / Client, Console Management SSH, and Console Management Direct SSH. The device also supports standard modes such as Real COM, TCP Server / Client, Serial Tunneling, UDP, and Telnet-based console management. Real COM, Real TTY, and Fixed TTY drivers are available for Windows, Linux, and UNIX platforms to simplify host integration.
Performance and resilience are enhanced by hardware features such as redundant power input via power jack and terminal block and IEEE 802.3af PoE PD compliance. The SN3401P integrates surge protection for serial, Ethernet, and power circuits and includes a 64 KB port buffer to prevent data loss during network interruptions. It supports an extensive range of baud rates up to 921.6 kbps for high-speed serial links.
Connectivity options include a single configurable RS-232 / RS-422 / RS-485 serial port with software-configurable 120 ohm termination and selectable pull-up/pull-down resistors for RS-485 signaling. The unit supports Modbus gateway functionality to translate between Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU / ASCII, enabling integration of serial Modbus devices into Modbus TCP networks. Console access is available via Java viewer or third-party clients such as PuTTY.
The SN3401P is suited to industrial process control, telecom, access control, and remote site management applications where secure remote serial access is required. It supports multiple simultaneous connections – up to 16 connections per port – and provides online/offline device detection with event notifications for status monitoring. Authentication options include local, remote, and third-party methods such as RADIUS to meet enterprise security requirements.
Installation and management are straightforward with a web-based GUI, quick setup wizard, and terminal-based menu UI via Telnet / SSH. The device supports SNMP v1 / v2c, NTP time synchronization, system and port logging to internal memory or a Syslog server, and firmware upgrade and configuration backup/restore. Multi-language web GUI and robust mounting options including DIN-rail, wall, rack, and desktop provide deployment flexibility.
