The Dynacord U120:1 is a single-channel 120W power amplifier engineered for small to medium AV installations – it delivers reliable amplification for background music and intelligible voice announcements. The compact chassis occupies half of a 19 inch rack unit, allowing two units to be mounted side-by-side to double channel count and power density. This design balances a small footprint with the power and protections required in permanent installations.
The amplifier provides full power into 4ohm, 8ohm, 70V and 100V loudspeaker systems and includes a dedicated EMG override input to ensure emergency messages are always audible. It also features a contact override input with a two-tone chime for attention-grabbing alerts and a switchable 120 Hz high-pass filter to remove unwanted low-frequency noise. Front panel LEDs convey protect, peak, signal, call and power status for quick visual monitoring.
On the performance side the U120:1 offers a frequency response from below 10 Hz up to 22 kHz (-3 dB ref 1 kHz) and distortion under 1% at rated output power. The output stage uses Class D topology while equalization provides bass shelving +/-12 dB and treble shelving +/-12 dB. Power consumption and power management are optimized with a switching mode power supply and remote standby control to reduce energy use during idle periods.
Connectivity includes a single line input available on RCA unbalanced (stereo summed to mono) and a balanced 3-pin Eurostyle connector, plus a dedicated balanced 2-pin EMG line input. Loudspeaker connections are made via a 4-pin Eurostyle block with separate low impedance and high impedance pins. Remote power on/off is supported via a 2-pin Eurostyle contact closure for integration with building control systems.
Typical applications include bars, restaurants, retail environments, educational facilities, houses of worship, museums, galleries, transport hubs and conference rooms where clear voice reproduction and background music are required. The EMG override and contact-triggered chime make the unit suitable for life-safety and paging systems where message priority is essential. The compact half-rack design is ideal where rack space is limited but reliable amplification is needed.
Installers will appreciate multiple mounting options including half 19 inch rack, side-by-side rack mounting, table-top and under-table installations – brackets are included for flexible mounting. The amplifier implements multi-layer protection including audio limiting, short-circuit protection, temperature monitoring and mains over/under-voltage safeguards for long-term reliability. Cooling is managed by a four-stage fan that adjusts speed to thermal load for quiet operation and consistent performance.
