Description
The STA-2A is a dual-channel line-level audio preamplifier designed to raise and condition line signals for long-distance transmission. Each channel provides identical performance and can accept either balanced or unbalanced inputs. The unit is engineered to deliver clean, low-noise gain while driving low-impedance lines.
Adjustable gain is provided by a 25-turn precision audio-taper trimming potentiometer that ranges from unity to +24 dB. Inputs are bridged at 20 kO and the outputs are low-impedance line drivers designed to drive 600 O loads. The design emphasizes wideband phase response, low distortion and high output current capability.
Performance metrics include a frequency response of 10 Hz to 100 kHz (± 0.05 dB), THD+N < 0.004% at unity gain and IMD < 0.005% at unity gain. Noise floor is specified at < -90 dB below +4 dBu and channel crosstalk is < -80 dB at unity gain. Maximum output capability is +25 dBu and headroom exceeds 20 dB above +4 dBu.
Connectivity supports balanced or unbalanced sources at 20 kO input impedance and provides 150 O balanced or 75 O unbalanced outputs. The STA-2A includes RDL SupplyFlex power input allowing floating 24 Vdc, bipolar ±12 Vdc or ±15 Vdc, or ground-referenced 24 Vdc supplies. This flexibility simplifies integration into existing power architectures.
The STA-2A is well suited to broadcast, live sound and installed-audio environments where high gain is needed to feed low-impedance lines or bridging inputs. It performs well when feeding transformer-terminated 600 O lines or when converting unbalanced consumer-level outputs to balanced professional lines. The unit supports both stereo and dual-mono workflows.
Installation is straightforward due to compact packaging and a simple control layout; the precision gain trimmer enables fine calibration during setup. The enclosure and circuitry are optimized for reliable continuous operation in ambient ranges from 0° C to 55° C. Overall, the STA-2A delivers predictable gain staging, low noise and robust line-driving capability in a compact form factor.
