Description
The ST-CL2 is a line-level compressor-limiter designed to maintain steady average output levels while providing effective peak control across a wide input range. It accepts balanced or unbalanced line-level signals and automatically adapts compression behavior to program material. The module is compact and intended to integrate into broadcast, studio, and installed audio systems.
Internal multi-stage detectors feed three timing circuits whose thresholds and slopes increment to respond sequentially to varying signal amplitude and energy. The ST-CL2 uses a soft-knee threshold and an automatically adjusting compression ratio to keep gain reduction smooth and largely inaudible. Two front-panel LEDs indicate NORMAL and HEAVY compression ranges to simplify input level setting.
Performance specifications include a flat 10 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response over the full compression range and extremely low noise below +4 dBu output. Total harmonic distortion remains very low across operating conditions and compression amounts. The device offers averaging and fast compression behavior plus instantaneous peak limiting for tight transient control.
Connectivity is provided with balanced 10 kO inputs and 150 O balanced outputs, both usable unbalanced, plus stereo COUPLE coupling terminals to strap two modules for stereo operation. Trimmers allow adjustment for common professional and consumer input/output reference levels. Power is 24 Vdc via RDL SupplyFlex at 50 mA.
The ST-CL2 is well suited to broadcast chains, voice processing, program feeds, and utility audio paths where consistent level and peak protection are required. It provides automatic operation that reduces setup time while preserving program dynamics. LED indicators and straightforward level trimmers make deployment in racks and mobile rigs quick and reliable.
