The SN3401 is a secure 1-port serial device server that connects RS-232 / RS-422 / RS-485 equipment to an Ethernet LAN. It provides encrypted remote access and multiple secure operation modes to protect serial data during transmission. The unit is designed for industrial and commercial deployments where secure serial connectivity is required.
The device supports Secure Real COM, Secure TCP Server / Client, Secure Serial Tunneling Server / Client, and SSH console management for encrypted administration. It also operates in standard modes including Real COM, TCP Server / Client, Serial Tunneling, UDP and Telnet management for legacy environments. A built-in Modbus gateway converts between Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU / ASCII for seamless protocol translation.
Hardware features include one DB-9 serial port, one 10/100 RJ-45 Ethernet port, redundant power inputs via DC jack and 3-pin terminal block, and surge protection on serial, Ethernet and power lines. The SN3401 supports baud rates up to 921600 bps and provides software-configurable RS-485 termination and pull high/low resistors. A 64 KB port buffer reduces risk of data loss during temporary network outages.
Security capabilities include TLS 1.2 browser encryption, RSA 2048-bit certificates, configurable user permissions, local and remote authentication, and third-party authentication such as RADIUS. IP address filtering and multi-user access control allow administrators to restrict and monitor who can access serial ports. System logs and event notifications support Syslog, SMTP email alerts and SNMP traps for centralized monitoring.
The SN3401 supports multiple mounting options including DIN-rail, wall, desktop and rack mounting using an optional kit. It provides online/offline detection of connected serial devices and sends event notifications when device status changes. With support for Real COM, Real TTY and Fixed TTY drivers across Windows, Linux and UNIX, it integrates with common host systems and third-party console clients like PuTTY.
