The SM31-EZ-BK is a 3 inch full-range surface-mount speaker designed for indoor and outdoor background music and paging applications. It delivers a focused frequency response from 170 Hz to 14 kHz and a nominal impedance of 8 ohm. The compact ZeroReflection ABS enclosure keeps the profile low while protecting internal components.
This model features a 76.1 mm polypropylene driver with a butyl rubber surround and weatherized components to resist moisture and corrosion. The housing includes an indexed swivel-joint mounting system that provides full hemispherical aiming and theft-resistant attachment. A corrosion-resistant powder-coated aluminum grille is supplied for long-term exterior use.
Performance specifications include 85 dB sensitivity (1 W/1 m), 20 W continuous RMS power handling, 40 W program power and a maximum SPL of 98 dB at 1 m. Coverage is approximately 70 degrees at 2 kHz and 45 degrees at 10 kHz, with an averaged coverage angle of 80 degrees between 2 and 10 kHz. Directivity and directivity index values are supplied for system alignment and prediction.
Inputs are handled via a screw terminal and the SM31-EZ-T option adds an AC-SM31-XFMR transformer module for 25/70.7/100 V systems with a five-position tap selector. The standard SM31-EZ ships as an 8 ohm unit for direct low-impedance connection to amplifiers. Colors available are black or white to match interior or exterior finishes.
Typical applications include background music, voice paging, retail environments, hospitality venues and other fixed-install audio systems where compact appearance and controlled coverage are required. The speaker’s weatherized components and corrosion-resistant grille make it suitable for covered outdoor locations. The swivel aiming and compact footprint make it practical for discreet placement in commercial installations.
Installation is simplified by the indexed mounting mechanism and compatibility with a single-gang deep junction box when the transformer accessory is used. The enclosure material and grille finish are selected for long-term reliability and minimal maintenance. UL 1480, CE and RoHS approvals ensure regulatory compliance in professional installations.
