The RU-SH1 is a stereo headphone amplifier designed as a RACK-UP series module for professional audio installations. It provides independent left and right headphone channels with balanced or unbalanced inputs. The unit accepts a wide range of input operating levels to integrate with consumer or professional sources.
Key features include switch-selectable input sensitivity and a stereo/mono mode selector for flexible routing. A recessed switch set on the rear selects input sensitivity and operation mode prior to installation. The front panel features a long-life potentiometer that controls matched VCAs so audio does not pass through the mechanical control.
Performance specifications deliver clean audio across the audible band with less than 0.5% THD+N at 1 kHz and a frequency response of 30 Hz to 20 kHz ±2 dB. Normal rated output is 10 mW into 100 ohm and maximum output is 50 mW into 100 ohm when powered at the specified voltage. The module maintains noise performance below -70 dB relative to normal operating level.
Connectivity is provided by balanced or unbalanced L/R inputs on bridging 10 kOhm inputs and a durable metal 1/4 inch 6.3 mm headphone jack on the front panel. The module is ground-referenced and designed for 24 Vdc operation at approximately 50 mA. It can operate from a 12 Vdc supply with approximately 6 dB less headroom and reduced maximum output power.
Typical applications include broadcast monitoring, production control rooms, and rack-based audio systems where reliable headphone monitoring is required. The RU-SH1 supports both high and low impedance headsets and can be used in mono mode to feed two outputs from a single left input. The module is compatible with standard RACK-UP mounting accessories for neat rack integration.
Installation and operation are simple – set the recessed sensitivity and mode switches on the rear, mount the module in a RACK-UP frame, and connect balanced or unbalanced sources and headphones. The robust metal headphone jack and long-life VCA-controlled level ensure years of noise-free adjustment. The compact module ships in a cardboard box and fits standard rack accessory layouts.
