The SoundTube RS400i is a 4-inch coaxial open-ceiling speaker designed to deliver clear full-range audio in distributed ceiling installations. It combines a polypropylene woofer and a convex titanium tweeter mounted on a BroadBeam waveguide to provide consistent coverage. The enclosure uses SoundTube ZeroReflection design to reduce internal reflections and improve clarity.
Key features include a five-position tap selector with transformer bypass for 25/70.7/100-volt systems or 4 ohm direct drive, and weatherized components for indoor and outdoor-rated installations. The BroadBeam waveguide maintains edge-to-edge coverage up to 10 kHz and a 2.3 kHz crossover ensures stable coaxial integration. Hanging hardware with SpeedClamp self-locking cable grip is included to speed installation and secure suspension.
Performance specifications include a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, a sensitivity of 82.5 dB at 1 W/1 m and an SPL max of 95.5 dB at 1 m. The frequency response measures 95 Hz to 20 kHz at -3 dB and 76 Hz to 22 kHz at -10 dB, and the speaker is rated for 20 W RMS continuous and 40 W program power. Average directivity and Q values show controlled dispersion across the operating band for intelligible speech and music reproduction.
Connectivity is provided via a four-pin 5.08 mm Euroblock for individual or daisy-chained inputs and an easy-access rotary tap selector for low-voltage zone wiring or transformer bypass. The unit ships with a terminal weather boot to protect connections in exposed installations. The grille is steel with a durable powder-coat finish and the enclosure is injection molded ABS reinforced with glass fiber for long service life.
Typical applications include retail ceilings, hospitality spaces, restaurants and outdoor covered areas where discreet ceiling-mounted coverage is required. The RS400i supports background and foreground music programs as well as voice paging where intelligibility and even coverage matter. Weatherized components and UL 1480 approval make it suitable for code-compliant installations.
Installation is straightforward – the included hanging hardware, SpeedClamp cable grip and simple wiring options reduce installation time and complexity. The low-profile grille and available paint finishes allow the speaker to blend into interiors while providing robust performance. Optional surface-mount brackets are available for installations that require an alternate mounting method.
