The WP-2UT/R-KIT is a wall-plate USB 2.0 PoC extender kit designed to extend USB signals, serial control and power over a single twisted-pair CAT cable. It pairs a 1-gang wall-plate transmitter with a compact receiver to provide a remote USB hub and RS-232 pass-through up to long distances. The kit supports plug-and-play operation and is optimized for AV and classroom installations where device placement and cabling flexibility are required.
Key features include USB 2.0 data extension up to 480 Mbps, transmitted bandwidth up to 300 Mbps and support for interrupt, bulk and isochronous transfers. The system provides four USB-A ports at the receiver and a USB-B host port at the transmitter plus a 3-pin RS-232 terminal block for serial control. Power-over-CAT allows two-way powering between transmitter and receiver to simplify power management and device charging.
Performance-wise the extender supports distances up to 100m (330ft) using shielded UNIKAT cable and up to 30m (100ft) over CAT 5e while maintaining USB 2.0 signaling. Serial communication is supported at standard 9600 baud and the unit provides status LEDs for link and power monitoring. The receiver supports fast charging when powered from a local PSU and limited charging when powered via PoC.
Connectivity is provided by a single RJ-45 CAT extension line, one USB-B host connector on the wall-plate transmitter and four USB-A device connectors on the receiver. The kit also includes a 3-pin RS-232 terminal block for bidirectional serial extension and standard USB compliance with USB 1.1 and 2.0 devices. Physical form factors include a US 1-gang wall-plate transmitter and a PicoTOOLS receiver enclosure for flexible mounting options.
Typical applications include classroom computer-to-touchscreen connections, remote cameras and soundbar placement in conference rooms, and USB peripheral extension for training or medical environments. The extender handles cameras, touch panels, HID devices, storage devices and audio peripherals while preserving USB 2.0 transfer modes. It is suitable where centralized hosts need to interface with remote USB devices while keeping cabling simple.
Installation is straightforward – a single twisted-pair cable carries signal and power and the wall-plate transmitter fits standard US 1-gang boxes or lectern mounts. The receiver is fan-less with aluminum enclosure and convection cooling for quiet operation and simple device-adjacent mounting.
