The M2A20 is a compact direct plug-in surge protector designed to safeguard high-current AC-only equipment. It provides surge and over-voltage protection using Panamax Protect-or-Disconnect(TM) circuitry that severs power during catastrophic events. The unit is intended for devices requiring 15A or 20A service and plugs directly into a standard 120 VAC wall outlet.
Key features include dual AC outlet support, Protect-or-Disconnect(TM) circuitry, and three diagnostic LEDs that show wiring integrity and protection status. The unit incorporates Signal Perfect(TM) circuitry for optimized phone-line surge protection and includes solid-state SIDACtor(R) and autor-resetting PTCR components. EMI/RFI noise filtration further reduces interference over the 100 kHz – 1 MHz band.
Performance specifications include a UL 1449 suppression rating of 330V, single pulse energy dissipation of 1350 Joules, and a peak impulse current rating of 52,000 A. The device has an initial clamping level of 200V and a response time under <1 ns. Thermal fusing and a catastrophic surge disconnect circuit are built in to protect connected equipment.
Connectivity is focused on AC power protection only – the M2A20 provides physical AC outlets that accept a wide range of plug styles including right-angle plugs and power transformers. Line voltage compatibility is 120 VAC at 50/60 Hz and protection modes cover L-N, L-G, and N-G. The unit supports both 15A and 20A maximum current ratings as indicated on the device.
Typical applications include protecting audio power amplifiers, laser printers and copiers, and other high-current AV and office electronics that require direct AC protection. The Protect-or-Disconnect(TM) function prevents damaged suppression components from allowing unsafe power to continue to connected gear after a catastrophic surge. The integrated diagnostic LEDs allow quick verification of wiring and protection status during installation and maintenance.
Installation is simple – the space-saving design plugs directly into a wall outlet and can be secured to equipment power cords via the built-in security feature.
