The KL Box Breakout Box expands the I/O capabilities of Kona-LH Kona-LHe and Kona-LSe capture cards for professional SD and HD workflows. It provides direct access to SD-SDI and HD-SDI signal paths plus HD/SD analog video connections. The unit is designed for post production and broadcast environments that require precise signal routing and high quality transfers.
This breakout box features SD and HD SDI ports plus component composite analog I/O and balanced audio connections. Hardware sample-rate conversion on AES inputs removes the need for external source synchronization. The unit supports up conversion and Dual Link where applicable to handle a range of SD and HD signals.
Performance meets SMPTE SDI limits for SD and HD formats and supports 24-bit AES/EBU digital audio at 48 kHz. QuickTime capture workflows are supported including native 10-bit file capture and legacy 8-bit formats. The unit also supports DVCPROHD HDV DV25 DV50 and JPEG formats for varied ingest requirements.
Connectivity includes two host cables with a 60-pin connector plus RS422 control and multiple BNC connections for SDI reference and analog paths. Analog video connections include Y/CVBS Pb/Y Pr/C and component outputs while audio I/O covers balanced channels and AES I/O pairs. The breakout integrates directly with Mac OS X systems and AJA Kona series cards.
Typical applications include signal ingest from tape decks camera decks and legacy analog sources capture for editing and color grading and bridging between SDI and analog monitoring chains. The unit is suitable for both uncompressed workflows and compressed formats like HDV and DVCPROHD. It provides a reliable front-end for ingest rooms and live capture environments.
Installation is straightforward with rack-mountable hardware and a compact 19 x 3 inch footprint that fits broadcast racks or desktop monitor tops. The robust build quality and standard BNC and balanced connectors ensure durable field and studio use.
