The KA8278 KVM over IP Console Station is a standalone console that replaces a PC or notebook and provides secure remote access to multiple ATEN KVM over IP switches. It enables operators to monitor and control servers and systems over IP while isolating local networked devices from virus risks. The console is designed for environments requiring immediate secure access and centralized control.
The unit supports one VGA and one HDMI video output and an advanced FPGA graphics processor that delivers Full HD 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz. It includes two USB Type-A ports for Virtual Media and separate USB ports for keyboard and mouse. Panel Array Mode allows simultaneous preview of up to 64 server video outputs on a single screen for large-scale monitoring.
Technical performance includes dual-display support for multitasking across two screens using a single keyboard and mouse and virtual media support via USB. Video resolution is 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz, and power consumption is specified as DC 5V: 6.53W. The unit is built in a metal housing and weighs approximately 0.80 kg (1.76 lb).
Connectivity options include 1 x HDB-15 (VGA) female, 1 x HDMI female, 1 x DB-9 male RS-232, 1 x RJ-45 LAN, 1 x RJ-45 cascade port, two USB Type-A for peripheral input, and two audio jacks. The device provides a GUI with multi-language support and single sign-on to consolidate management of compatible ATEN KVM over IP switches. Compatible switches require firmware v1.6.151 or above.
Typical applications include data centers, broadcast stations, control rooms, network operations centers, and studios where secure remote access and monitoring are required. The Panel Array Mode is particularly useful for surveillance and manufacturing environments that require simultaneous monitoring of many systems. Virtual Media enables remote file transfers and firmware updates across secured IP sessions.
The KA8278 is compact and can be desk mounted, wall mounted, or rear-rack mounted using its 0U rack design. Installation is straightforward and the included wall mount kit and GUI-based configuration simplify deployment in large installations.
