The KA7169 is a compact KVM adapter cable that links a KVM switch to a target computer using DisplayPort video and USB connectivity. It provides virtual media and a Smart Card/CAC reader interface to extend credential and media access over a KVM infrastructure. The adapter is designed for server room and secure access environments where compact cabling and robust signal handling are required.
Key features include Auto Signal Compensation – ASC to optimize video over varying cable distances, keyboard and mouse emulation to maintain server input state during port changes, and lifetime firmware upgrades for ongoing compatibility. The unit incorporates a built-in ASIC for improved signal integrity and compatibility across platforms. The CPU module supports automatic PS/2 and USB conversion to control PC, Mac, and Sun systems.
Technically the KA7169 presents a DisplayPort male connector for video plus two USB Type-A male connectors – one for standard USB and one dedicated to the Smart Card/CAC reader. A single RJ-45 female link port connects to the KVM switch. LED indicators include one green On Line LED and one orange Power LED. Physical dimensions are 9.10 x 5.60 x 2.12 cm and the housing is molded plastic for a lightweight footprint.
Connectivity covers DisplayPort video, USB data channels and smart card interface through USB Type-A connectors alongside the RJ-45 KVM link. The adapter supports Virtual Media and Smart Card/CAC reader functions on compatible KVM switches; note that virtual media and CAC reader functions are not supported on a list of legacy KVM models as specified by the manufacturer. The CPU conversion enables operation across PS/2 and USB host interfaces to maintain broad platform compatibility.
Practical applications include secure server access where CAC authentication is required, IT racks where compact cabling and reliable video compensation are necessary, and environments that need remote virtual media for software deployment or maintenance.
