The HDR-2 is a compact 4K SD card recorder designed to capture UHD and HD video streams without a computer – it records directly to SD cards using H.265 or H.264 codecs. It supports up to 3840x2160p at 60/59.94/50 and provides a simple on-device workflow via a 2 inch LCD and front-panel controls. The unit is optimized for live production, ENG, and field recording where reliable standalone capture is required.
Key features include H.265/H.264 encoding, HDMI 2.0 input/output and loop-through, selectable audio sources, and mobile power via USB. The recorder supports variable bitrates from 1 Mbps to 50 Mbps and records MP4 files with AAC audio for broad compatibility. A hardware GPI input and serial/DVIP control options provide remote start/stop integration with production systems.
Performance-wise the HDR-2 encodes 4:2:0 8-bit video and supports maximum H.265 4K60 and H.264 4K30 operation. Estimated recording times vary by codec and bitrate – for example, a 32GB card can store up to about 7 hours of UHD at 8 Mbps or about 1.7 hours at 32 Mbps. Audio is recorded as AAC 2-channel 16-bit 48 kHz up to 192 kbps to maintain sync and quality while preserving storage efficiency.
Connectivity includes one HDMI 2.0 Type A input, two HDMI 2.0 Type A outputs plus one loop output, two XLR inputs, one stereo RCA input, and a 3.5 mm headphone output. The HDR-2 supports de-embedded and embedded 2-channel digital audio and accepts SD/SDHC/SDXC UHS-I cards (U3 or higher). Power is DC 12V 2A and the unit can also be powered by external USB power banks for location shoots.
Typical applications include live event capture, camera-mounted recording for ENG, standalone ISO recording in studio workflows, and backup recording for mission-critical productions. The small half-rack 1RU chassis and 1.4 kg weight make it practical for rack or field use. Remote control via DVIP, RS-422/RS-232, or GPI enables integration into multi-device setups and automation systems.
Setup and operation are straightforward with front-panel buttons, on-screen menus on the 2 inch LCD, and standard file formats for easy post production. The chassis is designed for broadcast environments with power-failure protection features to safeguard recorded files.
