The HA5-Plus is an HDMI to 3G-SDI mini-converter designed to integrate HDMI sources into SDI monitoring and recording systems. It converts HDMI up to 1080p60 to 3G-SDI while preserving up to eight channels of embedded HDMI audio. The unit also supports progressive SD DSLR signals at 525p and 625p so DSLR cameras can be incorporated into SDI workflows.
Key features include EDID emulation, simple frame rate conversion from fractional to integer rates, and selectable embedded audio from HDMI or two-channel unbalanced analog RCA inputs. The HA5-Plus supports HDMI v1.4 and passes YCbCr 4:2:2, 4:4:4 or 4:2:0 color sampling with 8 or 10-bit depth where supported. An LED input indicator shows SD (green) or HD (red) status for quick signal identification.
Performance is engineered for stability with a 3G-SDI output that uses PLL clock filtering to reduce jitter and maintain image integrity. The equalized HDMI input supports cable runs up to 30 meters using 24 AWG HDMI cable, and the converter can embed two channels of analog audio into SDI while passing up to eight channels of HDMI embedded audio. Note that HDCP-protected content is not supported.
Connectivity includes one HDMI Type A input, one 3G-SDI output (Level A or B Dual Link), plus 1.5 Gb and 270 Mb SDI compatibility for legacy formats. Analog audio is provided via two RCA inputs and digital audio is passed as 24-bit 8-channel embedded streams. Configuration and firmware updates are available via the USB port using AJA MiniConfig on macOS or Windows.
