The AJA FIDO-T is a compact 1-channel 3G-SDI to single-mode LC fiber transmitter designed to extend SDI video over long distances – it provides electrical isolation and support for 3G/HD/SD-SDI formats. This converter is built for reliable signal transport up to 10 km (32808 ft) while minimizing ground loop issues. The small form factor makes it suitable for rack, camera, or mobile production deployments.
Key features include a single 3G-SDI input, SDI loop output, and a single-mode LC fiber simplex output using a 1310 nm transmitter – the unit supports SDI standards SMPTE-259/292/424 and SMPTE-297 for fiber. It includes a universal power supply that accepts 5-20 VDC and a locking power connector to prevent accidental disconnects. The device offers automatic reclocking for common SDI rates and passes through unsupported rates.
Performance and specifications are optimized for broadcast workflows – video formats from 150 Mbps up to 3 Gbps are supported and the device is format agnostic. Optical characteristics include nominal wavelength 1310 nm, optical power range -5 dBm to 0 dBm, and a typical extinction ratio of 7.5 dB. Reclocking is automatic for 270 Mbps, 1.483 Gbps, 1.485 Gbps, 2.966 Gbps and 2.970 Gbps.
Connectivity is straightforward with a BNC 3G-SDI input, SDI loop output on BNC, and a single-mode LC fiber simplex output – the unit uses an LC connector for fiber connection. Power may be supplied via the included universal power supply or any 5-20 VDC source and an optional P-TAP cable can be used for battery powering in remote locations. A locking power connector secures the connection in mobile applications.
Typical use cases include linking remote cameras to OB trucks, isolating signals to eliminate ground loops across facility infrastructures, and connecting long-run links between broadcast racks or transmission points. The compact size makes it practical for tight spaces and camera mounts, while the universal power supply and optional battery power add deployment flexibility. Installation is simple and fast – connect the SDI source, loop output as required, and the LC fiber output to the remote receiver then apply 5-20 VDC power. The device operates between 0 to 40 C and stores safely down to -40 to 60 C, with operating humidity 10-90% noncondensing and altitude support to 3,000 meters.
