The EXT-WHD-1080P-SR-TX is a short-range wireless HDMI transmitter designed to send uncompressed high-definition audio and video to a compatible Gefen receiver. It transmits 1080p Full HD video and multi-channel audio over the 5 GHz band up to approximately 33 ft (10 m). The unit is intended to be used as the Sender in a two-piece wireless HDMI extender system and is sold separately from the Receiver.
Key features include support for 1080p Full HD video, up to 7.1 channels of LPCM audio, and support for Dolby and DTS up to 5.1 channels. The transmitter supports HDMI features such as 3DTV pass-through, HDCP pass-through, and lip sync. AES 128 encryption protects the A/V link and latency remains under one video frame for responsive playback.
Performance specifications include operation in the 5 GHz RF region using WHDI 1.0 technology, less than one frame of latency, and an effective short-range transmission distance of up to 33 ft (10 m) depending on environment. The transmitter accepts HDMI Type A input and is powered via USB Mini-B from a USB port or the included 5V/2A power supply. The product is FCC Part 15 and ETSI-compliant and optimized for in-room installations.
Connectivity is straightforward – the small HDMI stick-style Sender plugs directly into an HDMI source and can be powered from a powered USB port or the supplied power adapter. The system supports legacy DVI displays via appropriate adapters and the Receiver supports IR extension for remote control of hidden sources. Up to eight Sender units can be linked to a single Receiver and selected one at a time via the handheld IR remote.
Typical applications include conference rooms, huddle spaces, education environments, and home theater setups where temporary or portable HD source connections are needed. The small physical footprint of the Sender makes it ideal for laptop or camera hookups and for leaving behind a display for occasional source changes. It transmits through obstacles but performance can be affected by walls, furniture, and other RF devices operating in the same 5 GHz channels.
Installation is simple and requires minimal configuration – plug the Sender into the source HDMI port, power via USB, and pair with the Receiver. The compact design allows the Sender to be left connected or hidden, while the Receiver can be mounted using 1/4-20 thread, keyhole wall slots, or placed on a shelf. Firmware updates are available via the mini-USB port using Gefen Syner-G software to maintain compatibility and support.
