Description
The EXT-HD-3G-C is a compact HDMI to 3G-SDI converter designed to bridge HDMI sources and SDI infrastructure. It accepts HDMI signals up to WUXGA/1920 x 1200 and outputs single-link HD-SDI or 3G-SDI up to 1080p60. The unit does not pass HDCP content – HDCP encoded input will produce no SDI output.
This converter supports HDMI 12-bit color input and outputs SDI at 10-bit color depth. Color spaces supported include 4:4:4 for RGB and YCbCr and 4:2:2 YCbCr. The device also supports 3G-SDI Levels A and B for flexible SDI workflows.
Audio is carried over HDMI and converted to embedded SDI audio with support for LPCM up to 7.1 channels. The converter preserves audio channel mapping for downstream SDI devices. It supports common sample rates used in professional AV systems.
Field configuration is available via onboard DIP switches or the Gefen Syner-G software through the Mini-USB port. Syner-G enables EDID management and firmware updates for in-field tuning and maintenance. Status LEDs indicate power and active HDMI input presence for rapid troubleshooting.
The EXT-HD-3G-C is engineered for fixed installations and mobile use – it features a wide operating voltage range of 6V to 24V DC and a locking power connector for secure power connections. The compact enclosure includes a 1/4-20 camera thread and a detachable surface-mount bracket for flexible mounting options. Velcro mounting is also feasible for space-constrained or temporary setups.
This converter is suitable for live production, broadcast signal chains, and AV installations that require reliable HDMI-to-SDI conversion. Its small footprint and flexible power input make it practical for camera-mounted rigs and rack-based systems. The combination of color space support, multichannel LPCM audio, and Syner-G compatibility delivers a practical solution for integrating HDMI sources into SDI infrastructures.
