The DS-TPS7A is a passive single-pair audio transmitter designed to carry line-level signals over RDL Format-A twisted-pair cabling. It accepts a stereo 3.5mm mini-jack input and converts the stereo signal into a summed mono output for distribution on a single cable pair. The unit provides galvanic isolation using a studio-quality transformer to protect sources and prevent ground loops.
Key features include a front-panel stereo mini-jack input, an internal transformer for isolation, and a rear-panel switch to select which RJ45 pair (A, B or C) is driven. The module is passive and requires no local power to operate, while allowing any present cable power to pass through to other connected modules. The transmitter can be daisychained on the TP CABLE RJ45 jack to combine single-pair and two-pair Format-A senders in a single run.
Performance specifications include a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz at ±0.5 dB and very low distortion, measured at <0.1% across 50 Hz to 20 kHz and <0.001% typical at 1 kHz. The input level is nominally -10 dBV with a maximum of +22 dBu. The passive design preserves signal integrity while the transformer provides studio-quality isolation for sensitive audio sources.
Connectivity is straightforward with a 3.5mm unbalanced stereo mini-jack for sources and RJ45 TP CABLE jacks for Format-A transmission and pass-through. A rear-panel switch selects which cable pair is fed, enabling flexible integration with other Format-A senders. The pass-through RJ45 accepts signals and power from other senders and allows chaining without interrupting cable power distribution.
Typical applications include sending consumer or line-level audio from a local source to remote destinations over structured twisted-pair infrastructure in broadcast, installed audio, or AV distribution systems. The unit is particularly useful where isolation is required between source equipment and remote receivers, or where only a single cable pair is available for audio. It is suitable for use in studios, control rooms, classrooms, and distributed audio installations.
The DS-TPS7A is built into a compact stainless front-panel module that mounts cleanly in small installs and rack accessory panels. Its passive circuitry means there is no local power to manage, simplifying deployment and reducing points of failure.
