The ColorBox is a dedicated inline HDR and SDR color transform device that performs real-time color conversions and 3D LUT processing in broadcast and on-set environments. It supports single-wire 12G-SDI for 4K/UltraHD and provides ultra-low latency processing of less than half a video line. The unit is designed to preserve color fidelity across HDR, SDR and wide color gamut workflows.
ColorBox features a configurable AJA Color Pipeline built around a 33-point 3D LUT processor with tetrahedral interpolation and multiple 1D LUT and matrix nodes. It supports ACES, NBCU LUTs, Colorfront transforms and optional licensable engines such as ORION-CONVERT and BBC HLG LUTs. The pipeline includes overlay, full frame LUT processing, and dynamic LUT support for real-time look loading.
Performance is specified for 12-bit 4:4:4 up to 4K 30p and 10-bit 4:2:2 up to 4K 60p with independent down-conversion for SDI and HDMI outputs. The device processes in 12-bit RGB, provides motion adaptive deinterlacing and a nominal video delay under 0.5 of a video line. Frame store captures up to 4K as 16-bit TIFF files and the on-board test pattern generator supports SDR and HDR patterns.
Connectivity includes 12G-SDI input and loop output, two 12G-SDI outputs, and HDMI 2.0b output with HDR infoframe generation. Audio pass-through supports embedded SDI audio up to 16 channels and HDMI embedded audio up to 8 channels. Control and configuration are available via the embedded web server, REST API, USB IP configuration and third party WiFi USB adapters.
Typical use cases include live television color management, on-set look management and high quality monitor calibration. The ColorBox integrates with Pomfort Livegrade, Assimilate Live Looks and QTAKE for dynamic 3D LUT workflows and capture recall. Its ultra-quiet fan and compact 1RU rackable footprint make it suitable for OB trucks, DIT carts and studio racks.
Installation is straightforward using the web user interface or REST API and the unit includes preset management for pipeline configurations and startup presets. The robust metal enclosure and regulated DC power input provide reliable operation up to 50 C. A three year warranty and extensive API support simplify integration and long term deployments.
