Description
The ATEM 4 M/E Constellation 4K Plus from Blackmagic Design doubles the I/O of the original model with 80 12G-SDI inputs and 48 independent 12G-SDI ISO AUX outputs. It connects to a wide range of cameras and sources, delivering video at up to 10-bit UHD 4K60 via 12G-SDI program outputs or 1080p/720p webcam output via USB-C. The switcher features four multiview outputs with up to 16 routable windows displaying inputs, keyed video, graphics, stills, and program output. Each input connects to a built-in FairLight audio mixer supporting up to 298 channels, along with two MADI inputs and four MADI outputs for advanced audio routing.Reference and Control
The switcher includes a reference input, and each input features a frame synchronizer, frame rate converter, and format converter. This allows seamless mixing of cameras without genlock. Upstream and downstream keyers and effects are processed in real time. Control options include the integrated front panel, optional ATEM hardware panels, or the ATEM Software Control Panel.
Advanced Broadcast Power
Designed in a compact rack-mount form factor, the unit includes a built-in control panel and a large LCD for monitoring program output and adjusting settings via on-screen menus. Rear connections include 12G-SDI inputs, AUX outputs, balanced audio, Ethernet, RS-422 serial control, and MADI audio. Despite its power, the switcher operates quietly thanks to an efficient thermal design.
Built-In DVE
The switcher includes four independent DVEs for repositioning graphics and creating picture-in-picture effects in real time. Features include customizable 3D borders, shadows, and lighting. DVEs also enable dynamic transitions such as squeeze and swoosh effects, and can be combined with custom graphics for advanced wipes.
SuperSource Processing
SuperSource provides multilayer processing with eight additional DVE layers plus a background layer, appearing as an extra input source. Any video input can be assigned and layered over custom backgrounds from the media pool, making it ideal for multi-box layouts and interviews.
Multiview
Supports configurable layouts of 16, 13, 10, 7, or 4 views, including monitoring of program, preview, inputs, media players, DSK, and clean feed with labels and audio meters. The 4 M/E model includes four dedicated multiview outputs and up to 48 independently routable outputs.
Professional Broadcast Talkback
Built-in talkback supports 5-pin XLR headsets and RJ12 connections for systems like ClearCom or RTS. Includes program and engineering loops, sidetone control, and program mix. SDI talkback uses channels 15/16 for communication and 13/14 for engineering. Talkback audio can also be embedded into the program output.
Media Pool
The internal media pool stores RGBA graphics and animations for instant playback via four media players. The 4 M/E model supports 60 stills, 1200-frame animations, and up to four video clips at 1080p60. Media can be managed via ATEM Software Control or imported directly from Photoshop.
Chroma Keyers
Includes 16 advanced chroma keyers for high-quality keying. Features a color picker, edge and flare controls, and foreground color correction for seamless compositing. Supports chroma, luminance, pattern, and DVE keying.
Upstream Chroma Keyers
Each M/E row includes four upstream chroma keyers, enabling complex virtual set creation. Supports multi-camera compositions, external processors, or pre-rendered backgrounds from the media pool. Macros can automate camera switching and background changes.
ATEM Software Control Panel
Provides full control with a visual interface for switching, audio mixing, camera control, media, macros, and HyperDeck integration. Multiple users can connect via Ethernet and collaborate simultaneously. Settings can be saved as XML and media backed up. Compatible with macOS and Windows.
