The Atlona AT-HDR-M2C is a dedicated audio converter designed to extract and downmix multi-channel PCM, Dolby, and DTS audio from HDMI sources. It provides stereo downmixed output while preserving full HDMI video pass-through to displays. The product supports current 4K/UHD and HDR formats and is HDCP 2.2 compliant.
The unit performs HDMI audio de-embedding and converts multi-channel bitstreams into two-channel PCM for analog and digital outputs. It supports PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS Digital Surround, DTS-HD Master Audio, and DTS:X. Volume and tone controls are available via network management to simplify system-level audio adjustments.
Video performance includes support for 4096×2160 and 3840×2160 at up to 60 Hz with 4:4:4 chroma sampling and color depths to 12-bit. The HDR-M2C passes HDR metadata and conforms to HDMI 2.0a specifications for color space and video formats. HDMI bandwidth support reaches 18 Gbps to accommodate high bit-rate sources.
Connectivity includes one HDMI input with pass-through, a separate HDMI output carrying two-channel downmixed audio, an optical TOSLINK digital output, and stereo analog unbalanced outputs. The device offers EDID management to control source behavior and ensure correct audio and video formats are negotiated. Network control via AMS or a web GUI enables remote configuration and monitoring.
The HDR-M2C is suited to installations that need to deliver two-channel audio to whole-house systems, amplifiers, or displays while maintaining original HDMI video to a display. Typical deployments include Ultra HD Blu-ray sources, set-top boxes, and AV systems that require reliable audio extraction from multi-channel streams. It provides a clean path for delivering stereo audio to legacy or two-channel endpoints.
Installation is straightforward thanks to a low-profile 1 inch high enclosure and included mounting brackets and external power supply. Front panel LEDs indicate power and audio format status to aid commissioning and troubleshooting.
