The 12G-AMA is a compact 4-channel balanced analog audio embedder and disembedder designed for professional SDI workflows. It supports 12G-SDI input and output up to 4K/UltraHD and offers optional single-link fiber I/O in LC and ST variants. The unit automatically detects and configures the input video standard to simplify setup.
Audio disembedding provides four balanced analog outputs at all times while audio embedding is selectable on a channel-pair basis. Users can choose to pass incoming embedded audio or override it by embedding the analog input audio carried on the supplied breakout cable. Analog audio level presets are configurable via AJA Mini-Config to match professional or consumer reference levels.
The converter supports a wide range of video formats including 4K, UltraHD, 2K, HD and SD at common frame rates and color sampling up to 4:4:4 and 10-bit depth. Embedded audio conforms to SMPTE 272M for SD and SMPTE 299M for higher rates, supporting up to 16 embedded channels where format permits. Measured audio latency is low, with embed path at approximately 1100 microseconds and disembed path at approximately 1200 microseconds.
Connectivity includes 1x 12G-SDI BNC input and 1x 12G-SDI BNC output plus a 25-pin D connector for balanced analog audio and a supplied breakout cable providing four XLR female inputs and four XLR male outputs. USB connectivity allows configuration and firmware updates using AJA Mini-Config on PC or Mac and DIP switches provide quick local control. Power is supplied via the included universal power supply supporting +5-16 VDC operation.
The 12G-AMA is suitable for broadcast and pro AV scenarios where embedding or extracting analog audio from high-bandwidth SDI signals is required. Typical applications include camera rigs needing balanced analog I/O, OB vans, flypacks, and signal routing in studios carrying 4K/UltraHD signals. Fiber I/O models also allow long-distance single-link fiber runs for remote connections.
Installation is straightforward due to the small form factor and locking power connector that prevents accidental disconnection. The unit ships with a universal power supply and international plug adapters for worldwide use and an optional P-TAP cable can be used for battery operation. Robust construction and simple configuration options make the 12G-AMA easy to integrate into existing SDI infrastructures.
